Prescriptions

Repeat medication can be requested by:-

– Ticking the items you require on the tear-off slip which accompanied your last prescription;

– Dropping your order slip in the prescription box placed in the entrance

– Using our Online Service. You are able to order, wherever you are, from your phone (app) or computer. Please ask our receptionists to enrol you in this service. Identification will be required.

For safety reasons we do NOT take repeat prescription requests over the telephone unless a doctor has specifically authorised this. If this is the case please telephone after 10.30am.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

In 2020, the charges are:

– Prescription (per item): £9.35

– 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £108.10

– 3-month PPC: £30.25

If you  have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

– Telephone advice and order line 0845 850 0030

– General Public – Buy or Renew a PPC On-line

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website

Medication Reviews

All repeat prescriptions are reviewed annually by a doctor or the practice pharmacist.  If you need to be seen, you will be informed when your review is due – it is very important that you attend to ensure that you are taking the most effective medication for your condition.
